TypeTasting workshops at Wellcome

Across the silos

The most exciting ideas and innovations are happening when we get beyond the silos of our regular experiences and collaborate. Creating workshops and an interactive installation for Wellcome Wellcome was an opportunity to explore the expressive qualities of type and lettering in a setting away from the regular graphic design world—bringing the topic to a new audience. Michelle the BSL interpreter added an extra level, as the physicality of her signing instinctively mirrored the expressive qualities of the typography.

In a mass experiment participants diagnosed the likely symptoms of a selection of typefaces. This successfully demonstrated the harnessing of visual communication to express how a person feels, and the potential for it to initiate conversations across language barriers. Read the case study.
